And the angel of the Lord found [Hagar] by a fountain of water in the wilderness…and the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for the multitude… the Lord hath heard thy affliction.

Genesis 16:7, 10-11

The story behind God Liveth And Seeth Me

The viewer sees Abraham's Egyptian wife, Hagar, at the fountain which she names Beer-lahai-roi (Hebrew for "The well of Him who liveth and seeth me").  This well is believed to have been in the wilderness on the edge of the Negeb.  In the painting, Hagar is looking heavenward where she hears the voice of the Lord speaking to her, promising her seed "not numbered for the multitude" (Genesis 16:10).  The Lord instructs Hagar to name her future son Ishmael, which literally means "God hears".  The light and beauty of her countenance reflect the testimony she gains that the voice she has heard is indeed the voice of Jehovah (see Genesis 16:13).  From this experience, she gains the courage and resolve to return and submit herself to Sarah despite their previous quarrel (Genesis 16:9, 15).  This painting reflects Hagar's testimony of the Savior and reminds us that the Lord sees and hears all of His children.

Symbolism in God Liveth And Seeth Me

The basket just behind the figure represents Hagar's hasty flight into the wilderness.  Hagar might have taken such a container for some needed provisions during her solo journey back to Egypt, but the basket here is empty, symbolic of the need she experiences during her wilderness flight.  It is this need that leads her to the well where she is visited by the angel of the Lord. The well behind the figure symbolizes the "living water" of testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ (see John 4:10).  The vine above Hagar's head symbolizes the Savior who is the "true vine" in whom we are to abide (John 15:1).

Fine Art Framing: Al Young Studios' custom framing services for original artworks and giclees (overview)

By Al R. Young
We have framed our own artworks for more than 25 years, and during that time we have provided a variety of framing services to patrons upon request.  For various reasons--including constant change in the availability of moulding styles--we cannot offer off-the-shelf framing options or response times typically associated with such a service.  Of necessity, all of our framing projects are custom projects that are priced, completed, and billed accordingly.  For example, inasmuch as the Studios does not maintain a selection of off-the-shelf moulding options, moulding styles actually available at the time of a request for information about framing options must be researched...
