As Seymore takes the first steps of his journey into the heart of Scotland, he starts to realize that he belongs to the setting and the heritage in which he finds himself.  He doesn't want to leave Lanham and Virginia's tidewater, but to bring Scotland home with him—at least those things that he can use to make his own home better.  Always curious about the how and why of things, Seymore continues to pursue his own questions about creativity and community.  He records his thoughts about these things in his diary, but there's also plenty of travel just to be enjoyed in that playful sense in which creativity always meets new experience—not knowing how or when or whether something will ever prove useful... All artworks in the Temple Fine Art Collection have been acquired by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for presentation in temples constructed and maintained by the Church.  Because "Latter-day Saint temples are considered houses of God, a place of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world,"   (see Temples in the online Newsroom of The Church of Jesus Christ) the Church acquires not only the original paintings produced for presentation in its temples, but all copyrights to the artworks as well... Elspeth Young’s recently completed oil painting of Patience Loader is featured in the 92nd Annual Spring Salon sponsored by the Springville Museum of Art, Springville, Utah.  Out of the nearly 800 artworks submitted, 230 were selected for exhibition.  Elspeth was also one of ten artists to receive a cash award for her artwork.

The frame for the painting was created by Ashton Young.

By Al R. Young Till We Meeting Again, an original oil painting by Elspeth Young, received an Award of Merit at the 90th Annual Spring Salon hosted by the Springville Museum of Art, Springville, Utah.
The juried exhibit (April 24 – July 6, 2014) is open only to Utah artists.
Of 860 entries submitted, 216 were juried-in to the show, and 20 of the works selected also received awards.

"We've noticed," said Rita Wright, director of the Museum, "that, almost without exception, everybody that walks into the gallery, enjoys Legacy (Portrait of Lois Childs) by Casey Childs (the first axial view in the exhibit), and then turns right around, and immediately migrates to the corner to view Till We Meet Again... By Al R. Young Alfred Ramsey Young was born June 5, 1919, in a small settlement known as Box, in the hill country of Oklahoma.  His parents were Samuel Peter Young and Olla Beulah Cole.

He was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where his father was a career police officer.  In 1937, he graduated from Central High School, where he had been a member of the marching band.  Upon graduation, he received a music scholarship, but declined it because the full amount needed for a college education was wanting... The Museum of Church History and Art in Salt Lake City opened an Easter exhibit this month featuring four paintings from Al Young Studios. The exhibit, located in one of the galleries on the main floor, runs until May of this year.

The museum is located at 45 North West Temple Street. Parking and other information are available on the Museum pages at the Church's web site.

Both of Elspeth's paintings featured in the exhibit come from the Women of the Bible Series: As It Began to Dawn, her painting of Mary Magdalene preparing to visit the tomb, and Blessed Is She That Believed, her painting of Mary at Pentecost... Read more »
